Apsley House *** |
Notes: |
Built in 1778 as a neo-classical villa on the edge of Hyde Park, Apsley House was later bought by the Duke of Wellington on his return from the Napoleonic Wars. The house contains exhibits relating to Wellington's military career - culminating in the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo - and later political career that led to him becoming Prime Minister. It is an impressive building but not quite top of our list of historic houses in London. | ||||
